When the time comes around for restoration and repair work, listed and historic buildings must be approached carefully, and by tradespeople who have the necessary skills and knowledge to sympathetically repair or add to the property whilst conserving as many of the original materials as possible. This is a vital process, as any timber item can become subject to rot and degradation over time, leading to the eventual decay of a building if it is not appropriately managed.
